Tom Cruise is often perceived as the one of fastest guys around by the average audience. The famous "I feel the need...the need for speed" line from Top Gun pretty much summed up his screen persona. And to satisfy his latest yearning for ridiculous speed, he hopped into a Red Bull Formula 1 car at the Willows Springs raceway in the USA.

Well, turns out the Tom Cruise doesn't just say that because it's a line in the movie script, he actually lives it. After being carefully guided around by David Coulthard, Tom was all set to get onto his racing line out on the track. Impressively enough, he hit 181 mph on the circuit, which is just four mph short of Coulthard's top speed.

David went on to say - "Tom's the real deal. I was surprised that he picked it up so quickly and is such an accomplished driver. His recall was incredible considering how complicated driving an F1 car is. He's a guy who really pushes the envelope in real life. This day was not green screened. And he thoroughly impressed me."

Good job, Tom. They really do live the life, don't they?
